JUST SOME OF THE MANY SESSIONS OVER THE 3 DAYS

TRAINING & PROGRAMMING

Breast Cancer Recovery (Andrea Leonard) Gain an understanding of the various breast cancer surgeries, including breast reconstruction, acute and chronic side-effects of treatment, lymphedema prevention, identification, and management, and how to create an appropriate exercise recovery program to help patients combat treatment side-effects, regain shoulder range of motion, and correct muscle imbalances that can lead to pain and joint degeneration.

Sizzling Special Needs Clients (Laraine Dunn) It’s no longer a secret: correct exercise and attitude does help to keep your clients fit, well and strong to enjoy their lives. There’s more to a class than just delivering a workout, adding challenge and diversity; for your clients, this can be done in many ways and doesn’t always equate to raised heart rate and increased resistance. Processes are happening on many levels and the class design has to encompass many considerations.

Mobilising the 3 Big Rocks. Improving gait (Sally Harrison) This practical session will demonstrate safe and effective mobility drills to enhance motion in the foot & ankle, hips & pelvis and the thorax. As we age our tissues become less elastic due to changes in our connective tissue. Our movement repertoire can shrink due to previous injury, lack of use or fear of movement. This leads to an ongoing downward spiral in loss of motion and confidence in ability. Loss of range and active movement between these 3 big rocks of the body can drastically affect balance, gait, agility and even breathing capacity.

BEHAVIOURAL & MINDSET

Resistance to Change - The Unseen Obstacles facing the Ageing Demographic (Bobby Cappuccio) Our decisions are dictated by how we feel, how we behave and how we form our beliefs. As we age we become even more resistant to change and like to stay in our ‘Comfort Zone’. Wouldn’t it be great if we had a system to help us influence our behaviours to create a more positive impact? Join Bobby as he simplifies thought processes and how we can change the interactions beliefs values and behaviours.

How Exercise Affects the Brain: Implications for Cognitive and Mental Health (Ryan Glatt) Exercise physiology is a often a part of standarized personal trainining curriculum, but what about neurophysiology? The basics of neuroanatomy, neuroscience, and cognition are not often presented in standard curriculum, yet the biggest health burdens of our time are associated with the brain and mind. Learn the mechanisms in which exercise affects the brain at the micro, macro and behavioral level. Gain insight on what is actually happening to the brain as a result of exercise, and how you can use this information to empower your clients to prevent cognitive decline.
